BIN LADEN DEAD
WELL another one bites the dust!
A Tip of the Beret to the “boys” for a job well done!
And not to belittle the job either, because I for one am glad we followed this through to conclusion, but he was just one guy and the problems will not go away just because he is no longer around. He was an important figure head and certainly one deserving of justice, but he is just one of many.
This is a WAR and it is far from over.
Bright Light
A SF Medic Running SOG Recon
Steve Perry’s Bright Light is a good honest read by the rarest kind of man in SF. A SF Medic that ran SOG recon. We loved our medics and tried to keep them alive at all costs because if there was one guy that was going to do whatever he could to keep you alive it was the medic. SF Medics are not just a “slap a bandage on you” type of medic, after they finish more than a year of internsive medical training they are as close to a doctor are you are going to get anywhere else. So the last thing we want is for them to run around the jungle on SOG recon teams. Of course there is the other problem, the reason that Steve and others got into SF to begin with was to run around the jungle in SOG recon teams…. Steve book is his story as a SF Medic and finally as a team leader in SOG recon. It is a good read, even though I had to put it down a few times remembering the sacrifice of so many good men. Steve’s book is a tribute to those fine men that were lost during his tour. It is a good read and a great rememberance of sacrifice paid in full.

The Night Eagles Soared

The Night Eagles Soared
I don’t normally list fiction but this is an exception – if you want to know what it was really like to be in that first team that put their boots on the ground in Afghanistan then read this book – the author a retired Special Forces soldier with 21 years of service knows what he is talking aobut.
The Night Eagles Soared is set immediately after the attacks on 9-11 as a Special Forces team departs from its base of operations in flight towards Afghanistan. They are the initial infiltration of American troops into that country as the hunt for Osama Bin Laden and the effort to take down the Taliban are set into motion.
Throughout the flight, the Team Sergeant; Mike, examines his life as a member of the Green Berets and the experiences that placed him into the position of being the first Senior Non-Commissioned Officer to lead his team into combat via a High Altitude Low Opening parachute Operation (HALO) since the Vietnam War.
The Night Eagles Soared tells the story of one man’s effort to succeed and survive as a Special Forces soldier throughout many operations over twenty years leading up to the liberation of Afghanistan from its oppressors.
Here is a link to buy this book from the author – and do that- because he is giving $2.00 from everybook to the Green Beret Foundation. So have a good read and while you are at it do some good for the deserving men of Special Forces that this book is about.
Can’t get much better than that!

Special Forces Guerrilla Warfare Manual
If you are planning to go to war anytime soon then get this manual and keep it close at hand. Scott has done a great job of distilling personal experience together with the classic Special Forces guerrilla warfare manuals into a easy to understand basic manual on small unit tatics and guerrilla warfare. There is a saying that no matter how much things change the more they stay the same. It is like that in warfare. For all the "hi tech" stuff on the battlefied of today, in the end it still comes down to men with weapons maneuvering on the battlefield.
This is a Special Forces book that will not be outdated 20 years from now, buy now because you never know what the future holds.
Medal of Honor: One Man’s Journey From Poverty and Prejudice (Memories of War)
Medal of Honor: One Man's Journey From Poverty and Prejudice (Memories of War)
M. Sgt. Roy Benavidez's entire life is one of overcoming odds from being born a poor child of Mexican and Indian heritage to the day he died. This is a story that everyone should have on their bookshelf to take down and read whenever they want to throw themselves a pity party. Roy was a proud SOG recon man, and an example to all Special Forces men and we are proud of him and the legacy he left behind.
NEVER SURRENDER!
NEVER SURRENDER by LTG. BOYKIN is a journey though the black ops from 1978 up to 9-11 and the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Gen. Boykin was one of three original officers selected for Delta Force and served with the unit through many of the hardest times. Co-written by New York Times best selling author Lynn Vincent, Never Surrender: A Soldier's Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom gets your interest on page one and keeps it through the entire book. Operations such as the Iran Hostage Crisis, Sudan, Grenada, Panama, Waco and the Branch Davidians, Columbia, Somalia, the Balkans and more give great insight into contemporary US special operations history. A lot of positive reviews on this book on Amazon. ![]()
On the Ground
This is Tilt's second book and on this one he had as a co author fellow SOG Vet John Peters. Not only do you get all the action packed tales of SOG recon but you get the Special Forces humor that was such an important part of our daily life. He also has a detailed account of the devestating attack on FOB 4 that saw more Special Forces men die in one day than any other time in history. And Tilt gives very personal account of his last year in SOG Recon including a no holds barred assessment of some of the worst leaders to be put in charge of SOG recon in their history.Buy this book you won't regret it. You can buy the book at Tilt's website by clicking here.
TO BE A GREEN BERET
To Be A Green Beret is a look into the training and selection process for Special Forces. A book with a lot of good pictures and a brief overview of the process from the begging of the quest for the Special Forces tab to the awarding of the Beret.
If you are thinking about joining Special Forces then this book, “Chosen Soldier” and “Get Selected” will give you the best overview and details on selection you can have.
Mike Force

Mike Force by Col Bucky Burress is a great read about a unique Special Forces unit formed in Vietnam – Mike Force.
I like to call the Mike Force the United States Army Special Forces Marine Corps, because they were our premier assault force in Vietnam. Guys assigned to the Mike Force saw plenty of combat because the were called when a Special Forces unit or camp was in trouble.
It was also a unit that had members of the Australian Army Training Team – Vietnam serving with them. The Aussies performance was nothing less than stellar and they were the perfect team mates for this unit.
Pick it up, you won’t be disappointed.
SOG Medic
SOG Medic: Stories from Vietnam and Over the Fence
Joe Parnar was in a wide variety of of roles while at CCC, he was a dispensary medic, chase medic and Hatchet Force medic. Not satisfied with that he also ran recon with RTs Texas and Ohio, and was a strap-hanger with RT Florida!
Special Forces medics are a breed apart and this book really shows you why, not only great soldiers but probably the best combat medics in the world. He was all that and a SOG recon man to boot!
